Dressing up

I just cannot help myself. Over the last couple of weeks, some work colleagues have been talking about their kids' planned Hallowe'en costumes, & the difficulties of keeping the kids happy without spending a fortune. Being someone who enjoys making things, I offered some help...  Because I really am the sort of person who just happens to have this sort of stuff lying about the house.

And I have just spent a rather pleasant Saturday stitching & hemming bits of fabric.

The first little boy wants to be a pirate just like Jake; I made a waistcoat from a piece of denim fabric I have had for years. I also had the perfect excuse to buy some skull & crossed-swords fabric, which I hemmed to make a headband. His mum is going to pair this with some denim shorts & striped socks.

The second child has been watching rather a lot of Horrible Histories and wants to dress up as Caesar. Now, most 'Roman' costumes would involve draping some sheets, but an Emperor really should have some royal purple garments too. I picked up some synthetic purple lining fabric for about 2 euro, & hemmed it. I think this will set off the draped undyed muslin fabric. The final touch, courtesy of his mum, will be a gold leaf crown. I cannot wait to see post-Hallowe'en photos of the kids!

All this stitching has me very tempted to get & dress myself up too...
